We seek an ecologist to conduct spatiotemporal statistical analysis of ecological data, including physical and biological aspects of rainforest ecosystems and biodiverse species assemblages using thermal landscape modelling to predict resilience to climate change. The study site is an elevational transect from 280m to 4000m in the interface of the eastern Andes and lowland Amazon in southeastern Peru.

This is a two-year post-doc level position with possibilities for extension.

The successful candidate will analyze large, complex spatial and spatiotemporal ecological and genomic data sets.

The individual should have a PhD in quantitative ecology by the start of employment. We expect experience publishing scientific papers in quantitative ecology. Applicants must have proficiency with programming, spatial analysis and statistics in GIS and R, and be able to develop and implement statistical models using both Bayesian and frequentist methods, be able to work with large data sets and computationally complex tasks. Experience with machine learning a plus. The ability to portray data analyses in a visually compelling manner is also a plus.

The work consists of these tasks:

  • Develop and implement model selection, performance assessment, and
  • Synthesize and interpret model outputs, including maps.
  • Contribute data analysis to peer-reviewed
  • Provide statistical guidance to team
  • Conduct data management using knowledge of MS SQL and macro

The work is primarily based in Washington DC with opportunities for field work in the Amazon with a team of 5- 6 people in the field. Being based at a field station in Peru is also an option if you have decent Spanish capacity.

Candidates must be willing to provide frequent progress updates. Being disciplined about task completion is essential-if you cannot complete papers, then please do not apply.

This is not a routine 9-5 job. It is ideal for a driven individual who wants to build a career in this field based on a high level of productivity and creativity. You should be someone driven by a passion for ecology and who loves data analysis.
