Flying D Ranch, a wild and scenic 113,613-acre bison ranch located in southwest Montana, is seeking a Ranch Technician to assist with daily ranch operations during the summer season.                                            

ABOUT THE POSITION
As a seasonal Ranch Technician I, your primary duties will be centered around summer duties of fencing and irrigating on the ranch. You will help with fence repair and construction across the ranch and may be responsible for irrigation duties, including twice daily wheel line sets. Seasonal housing and utilities are available for this position if desired. The anticipated season for this position is mid-May through August, but there is some flexibility in the schedule.   

You will also be responsible for: 

  • Repair, maintenance and construction of various types of fences and corrals.
  • Operation and maintenance of irrigation systems, including center pivots, wheel lines, pumps and motors. 
  • Assisting in herding and handling of bison on pasture and in corrals. 
  • Working on habitat conservation projects such as riparian restoration and juniper mulching.
  • General maintenance and housekeeping of ranch vehicles, equipment and buildings. 
  • All other duties as assigned.

What this isn’t:

  • Working on horseback.
  • A management or supervisory position

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:

  • This position requires operation of vehicles, and you’ll need to possess a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.  Your driving record will need to meet the standards and requirements of the Company and the Company’s insurance provider
  • You’ll need to present documentation establishing both identity and employment authorization within three days of hire pursuant to federal law

Preferred:

  • Experience operating ATVs/UTVs
  • Experience with fencing
  • Experience with irrigation
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
On a regular basis, you can expect to:

  • Stand; sit; walk; hike in steep or rugged terrain; move hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. 
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform physical labor for extended periods of time.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

You will regularly be exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. You will occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. You will occasionally by exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
