Summary/Objective
Serve as Department real estate professional for the acquisition of all property or land rights for purchase or trade.
Essential Job Duties
- Manage and negotiate the acquisition and disposal of real estate for the Department.
- Inspects sites, secures appraisal reports, verifies legal descriptions, verifies courthouse records for ownership, taxes, and legal descriptions.
- Prepare a variety of real estate associated documents including affidavits, general warranty deeds, trustee’s deeds and corporation deeds. Order title searches and reviews land title commitments and policies.
- Prepares land purchase, building and structural control records for Department use. Administers and budgets for annual in lieu of tax payments to counties and levee districts.
Ancillary Job Duties
- Assist in the preparation of any real estate reports that may be required by management or the Commission.
- Interface with MDC staff regarding issues that may require real estate expertise necessary to the management of MDC real estate.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Agri-Business, Real Estate or closely related field.
- At least three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience or similar experience in real estate, right of way, or legal experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must maintain a valid, current driver’s license.
- Must be able to complete the requirements for a real estate license within three months of employment.
- Become a Notary Public.

- Knowledge of Legal/title issues, real estate issues, finance and accounting.
- Ability to keep focused on understanding, anticipating and responding to the needs of customers.
- Ability to administer financial resources in a manner which instills public trust and accomplishes the Department’s mission.

- Ability to make independent decisions and act quickly and decisively on the determined course of action.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of all types of groups, Department staff and the general public.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and assist in resolving conflicts.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with Department personnel and the general public.
Work Environment
- Regularly work in a standard office environment.
Physical Abilities
- Remain stationary up to 70% of the time.
- Regularly communicate and exchange accurate information.
- Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
- Regularly lift up to 5 pounds.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function
