Are you passionate about connecting people to the outdoors? The Pacific Crest Trail Association (PCTA) is looking for someone with trail maintenance and volunteer engagement experience to join our team as the Regional Trail Stewardship Coordinator for the North Cascades region. PCTA’s North Cascades Region spans the northernmost 400+ miles of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) through beautiful, rugged country including the Goat Rocks, Alpine Lakes, and Pasayten Wilderness areas.
The Regional Trail Stewardship Coordinator (RTSC) has strong outreach, organization, trail maintenance, and leadership skills to enhance and grow the PCTA’s regional volunteer trail maintenance programs to reduce deferred maintenance backlog on the PCT.
This position:
• Supports programs focused on growing PCTA’s volunteer program and developing a diverse, inclusive, and equitable volunteer community.
• Works closely with staff, volunteer leaders, corps crew partners, and agency partners to provide professional project coordination and management, logistical support, and
project leadership in the office and the field.
• Works in coordination with volunteer program staff to recruit volunteers and foster greater partnerships and regional stewardship collaboration between local agencies,
municipalities, and community organizations.
• Coordinates, provides support for, and instructs at Trail Skills College and other training courses.
• Centers and implements diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) strategies in their project planning and execution.
This is a year-round, full-time position, currently funded for 2 years, with potential to extend position if funding allows.
Fieldwork will take place in the late spring, summer and early fall as conditions allow. Outreach and coordination efforts will be ongoing throughout the year. A personal vehicle is required and mileage is reimbursed at federal mileage reimbursement rate.

What Makes You a Great Fit for this Position?
• Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience or five years of substantial volunteer experience in a field that involves conservation, trail maintenance, ecological
restoration, landscaping, or other outdoor stewardship projects
• Outdoor leadership experience in training, managing, and leading trail crews
• Embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion as a personal value
• Knowledgeable about Leave No Trace principles and tactics
• Technical trail maintenance, rehabilitation, and construction skills
• Ability to maintain a safe working environment in the field
• Experience recruiting, coordinating, teaching, and managing volunteers
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively build relationships and interact with people from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds

• Strong time management and detailed organizational skills with the ability to take initiative and produce results with minimal supervision
• Proficiency using a computer, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and databases; comfortable learning new technology systems as needed
Desirable:
• Chainsaw and crosscut saw certification, or skillset to enable certification before leading a project
• Valid wilderness first aid, including CPR certification, or ability to complete certifications before the employee’s first managed project
Physical Requirements:
• Comfortable working in front and backcountry settings, at high elevations, and in inclement weather
• Ability to lift 25 pounds
• Ability to work at a computer for several hours at a time
• Ability to travel, including hiking and backpacking on and off trail for several days at a time
• Ability to perform manual trail work
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive personal or rented vehicles
Typical Working Conditions and Travel:
The Regional Trail Stewardship Coordinator works under the direct supervision of the Regional Representative in the project area. Prioritizing work to meet the day-to-day demands and ongoing assignments, and regular communication on work projects, are expected. Office work can be done from the PCTA Office in North Bend, WA or from a remote location within the region. Regular travel for meetings and projects, including overnight and extended backcountry travel is to be expected, as is an irregular work schedule that will include weekend and evening work. PCTA covers travel expenses, including mileage reimbursement. Typical office equipment includes a laptop computer, necessary computer peripherals, and other standard office equipment. Field equipment includes standard trail tools and hand tools such as Pulaskis, McLeods, pick mattocks, rock bars, sledgehammers, and shovels. Advanced tools include crosscut and chain saws, power tools, and rigging systems.
