Job Description: The Jones Center at Ichauway invites applications for the role of Ecohydrology Research Associate (RA). The RA will contribute to an interdisciplinary research program of a staff scientist and will manage projects that examine the effects of forest management practices, land cover, and climate change on water use at the plant, stand, and watershed scales.
Location: The Jones Center is located on Ichauway, a 30,000-acre property in southwestern Georgia between Albany and Bainbridge. The Center’s research, education, and conservation programs focus on ecology and natural resource management. Ichauway contains 18,000 acres of longleaf pine woodlands, 1,000 acres of wetlands, and 25 miles of stream and river ecosystems. An 18,000 square foot research laboratory houses scientists’ laboratories, a central analytical laboratory, and two field labs. Qualifications: A master’s degree with specialization in any of the following areas: ecosystem ecology, plant physiological ecology, forest ecology, (eco)hydrology, or related area. Requirements include strong data management skills and experience leading forest or plant community field data collection. Experience in GIS and/or R programming is desirable but not required. Formal and informal training will be provided.
Duties: The position includes both office and field duties. Primary duties include:
• Day-to-day management of lab technicians and lab resources
• Field sampling of forest community structure, installation and maintenance of sensors, plant and soil gas exchange measurements, and assistance with design and implementation of other ecohydrologic measurements
• Data curation, QA/QC, processing, and analysis
• Occasional overnight travel (less than 10 nights per year)
• Opportunities will be available to participate in conferences, peer-reviewed publications, and grant proposals
• A willingness to learn new skills or improve existing ones through formal and informal training
Compensation: Salary range starts at $48K and depends on experience. A competitive benefits package is included. This is a permanent, full-time, on-site position.
