Research Technician I

The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) is seeking a Research Technician I to join the Office of Aquatic Invasive Species (OAIS). The successful candidate will assist in determining the growth and reproductive biology of aquatic invasive plants, conducting aquatic plant surveys, analyzing data, assisting in workshops, and contributing to scientific writing and technical reports. Responsibilities also include pressing, mounting, and cataloging aquatic plants using herbarium protocols. Candidates must document vegetation in lakes and ponds using field observations and GPS technology and should have a background in ecology, biology, and chemistry. Additional duties require trailering and operating boats and large trucks, working independently and as part of a team in laboratory and field settings, and engaging in public outreach. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree, hold valid boating and driver's licenses, and be comfortable driving long distances, working in various weather conditions, and maintaining a safety-oriented approach. Proficiency in ArcGIS, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential, and previous experience in aquatic ecology or environmental monitoring is preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are required to adapt to dynamic field conditions. The position is available for two years with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding.
