Position: Restoration Specialist
Our Restoration Technician will support MAD’s Restoration Team in drafting wetland and stream restoration plans (working in close collaboration with MAD’s Professional Engineer, Professional Wetland Scientists, Restoration Designer, and Restoration Ecologist) and overseeing related construction. Primary responsibilities include GIS data collection, drafting in AutoCAD Civil 3D to create construction plan sets, and conducting construction oversight to ensure that plans are properly interpreted and implemented by our subcontractors and other project partners. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication. Our ideal candidate will be an upbeat and team-oriented individual, committed to completing quality restoration plans at both the design stage and the implementation stage. Position will involve frequent fieldwork throughout the year, with periodic overnight travel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with detailed site investigations and studies
  • Collecting, analyzing, and interpreting environmental, GIS, and mapping data
  • Collecting field elevation data using surveying tools (Trimble GPS, construction laser)
  • Supporting MAD’s Restoration Team with the design of habitat restoration and mitigation projects through the development of construction plans in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Assisting with the writing and editing of technical reports, plans, and regulatory submissions
  • Interpreting construction plan sets and assessing sites during construction to confirm they meet design intent as well as state and county erosion and sediment control requirements
  • Performing construction oversight for restoration projects and effectively communicating with construction contractors, clients, and other stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Ecology, Environmental Engineering, Engineering Technology, Landscape Architecture, or another related field
  • Willingness to work in and contribute to a fun and productive team environment
  • Proficient in drafting and interpreting detailed construction plan sets with accuracy
  • Capable of completing tasks within designated timeframes, both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail with effective problem-solving skills
  • Able to work in extreme heat while managing exposure to insects, ticks, poisonous plants, and potentially venomous snakes
  • In possession of a valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and commitment to maintain a good driving record

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred) or equivalent engineering design software
  • Experience with GPS units and GIS software
  • Experience with construction oversight and communicating design plans to construction contractors
  • General knowledge and understanding of natural ecosystems and their restoration
  • Familiarity with wetland and stream restoration techniques
