WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Rocky Mountain Front Stewardship Technician will conduct various stewardship and ecological monitoring activities on The Nature Conservancy’s Pine Butte, Crown Butte, and Blackleaf Preserves. May travel to other Montana preserves and/or properties to conduct similar duties. Position offers a unique opportunity to be involved in a collaborative, science-based, applied conservation program, and to gain on-the-ground land steward experience.
The Stewardship Technician may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations for long periods of time in isolated settings, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. Requires considerable physical exertion and/or muscular strain. Due to remote living conditions, reliable transportation is required for personal use. Residence in TNC shared housing at the Pine Butte Preserve is a requirement of this position. TNC will provide housing rent free and the value of the housing is not taxable to the successful candidate.
Responsibilities and Scope:
• Herbicide application and integrated weed management.
• Invasive plant mapping and monitoring control effects.
• Maintaining fences, trails, vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
• Assist with research and the collection of ecological monitoring data, data entry, and data management.
• Provide information to preserve visitors.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
• High school diploma or GED and 1 year’s training in science-related field or related experience in land management.
• Experience recognizing plant and animal species.
• Experience operating various types of equipment in a safe and efficient manner (e.g. lawn mower, chainsaw, UTV, ATV or OHV, two-way radio, or similar equipment).
• Must be able to obtain related licenses or certifications as required. (e.g. First Aid, CPR, herbicide or pesticide application).
ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
This is a full-time, seasonal position with an approximate start and end date of May - August 2025. Residence in TNC shared housing is a requirement of this position. Shared housing is located at TNC’s Pine Butte Preserve near Choteau, Montana. TNC will provide housing rent free and the value of the housing is not taxable to the successful candidate.
AUTO SAFETY POLICY
This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program.

Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee's motor vehicle record.
SALARY INFORMATION
The hourly rate for the selected candidate for this position is $17 - $19 per hour. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
