Save the Whales Campaign Organizer

The Student PIRGs are hiring Organizers to Save the Whales.

The sight of a Right Whale is incredible, but far too rare. Today, these amazing whales are on a path towards extinction, with only about 360 left. Already this year, three Right Whales have been killed by boat strikes, and one died from getting tangled in fishing gear. Unless we stop these threats, scientists say these whales won't survive.

To save the species, we need to slow down boats where Right Whales live. We’re hiring Campaign Organizers to build public support for saving the species, and run other critical campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run a grassroots petition drive in one or more campus communities, alongside passionate student activists.
  • Recruit and train a team of volunteers to be effective social change leaders on the campaign, using skills such as generating grassroots support and coordinating lobby days and news conferences.
  • Build a coalition. Work with student volunteers and interns to build a diverse, invested coalition of organizations and people to show broad support for our campaigns.

Qualifications

We’re looking for candidates who

  • Have a track record of leadership.
  • Are goal-driven and results-oriented.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Are driven, work well with all kinds of people, and aren’t afraid to get outside their comfort zones.
  • Are passionate about making positive change. Change takes time, and is often incremental; we’re looking for people who are excited to work hard every day, even if it’s just for one small step in the right direction.

We believe in the power of young people to build a better world. From civil rights to protecting the environment, students are often at the forefront of movements to build a better future for our country. The Student PIRGs have been working for over 50 years to amplify the power of student activism, and help students make real change, right now. Our chapters and clubs on college campuses across the country provide the training, professional support and resources students need to tackle climate change, protect public health, revitalize our democracy, feed the hungry and more. We all want to live meaningful lives in a world that's greener and healthier, so we help students get organized, mobilized, and energized to make that vision a reality.
