Position Summary
To assist in park environmental education programs and public outreach as well as learn how a State Park operates. To work in public education, free school programs for children, outdoor and wildlife education, volunteerism, and land stewardship.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Work with park staff, additional SCA and volunteers to provide nature-focused educational programming at Mine Kill State Park and satellite facilities. Develop and implement new educational programs tailored to regional school groups grades K-12, community organizations and the public. Help to plan and carry out other park events. Enhance outreach for programming by attending local events, developing fliers. Promote and expand volunteerism in our parks, through programs such as I Love My Park Day and National Public Lands Day. During the summer months, the SCA member will serve as a park ambassador, providing roving interpretation and visitor assistance as needed. Additional tasks will include trail building and maintenance, invasive species removal and other land stewardship projects.
Goal 1: Successfully organize and conduct environmental education programs.
Goal 2: Develop new lesson plans and interpretive materials that can be used in State Parks.
Goal 3: Become familiar with all phases of park operations and assist park staff with a variety of projects.
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. • Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
- A passion for connecting people with nature.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in environmental education, environmental studies, or related field. Experience participating in environmental education, community engagement or outreach preferred.
- Familiarity with the flora and fauna of New York State.
- Specialized trainings in environmental education such as Project WET and Project WILD considered a plus.
