Vegetation:
The Conservation Science program is now recruiting for up to 2 Seasonal Vegetation Technicians for the 2025 Season. We are looking for people who would enjoy working in our vegetation program from February through October. The Vegetation Technicians’ time will be distributed as follows:
50% Crew Lead: Provide oversight for a crew of up to six seasonal assistants, focused on the management of invasive plant species in Marin open space preserves. Technician will assist the Vegetation Specialist with project planning and scoping, coordinating crew needs and logistics, and promoting safe and effective field work practices. This role may assist with on-the-job trainings covering relevant skills, tools, gear, or equipment.
50% Early Detection/Rapid Response: Surveying for early detection invasive plant species and conducting rapid response weed management treatments. Additional tasks may include conducting vegetation surveys for rare plant populations, priority weed infestations, and project areas.
Wildlife:
The Marin County Parks Natural Resources and Science program is now recruiting for Seasonal Wildlife Technicians for the 2025 Season. We are looking for people who would enjoy working in our wildlife program from February through October. The following roles are available:
- Wildlife Technician: This position will work on wildlife monitoring and inventory, habitat assessments, data management, project compliance, and will be working closely with other teams on collaborative projects. Tasks include servicing wildlife cameras, docent programs, nesting bird habitat and behavior surveys, bat habitat assessments and emergence surveys, preconstruction surveys, and construction monitoring. Familiarity with or desire to learn vegetation communities, special status species, birds and general wildlife survey techniques, and report writing is desirable.
- Fuels Technician: This position will conduct biological resource assessments specifically for fuel reduction and fire mitigation projects. Assessments will include nesting bird habitat and behavior surveys, wildlife habitat assessments, rare plant surveys, and vegetation community assessments. Additionally, this position will assist with landscape-level fuel reduction project management including grazing efforts, controlled burns, and mechanical vegetation removal, as well as small-scale fuel reduction efforts in urban interfaces. Familiarity with or desire to learn vegetation communities, special status species, birds and general wildlife survey techniques is desirable.
Trails:
The Conservation Science program is now recruiting for a Seasonal Trail Technician for the 2025 Season. We are looking for someone who would enjoy working to promote sustainable trail access and restore fragmented habitats in Open Space. The Trail Technician’s duties will be distributed as follows:
- 50% Trail Monitoring, Inventories, Impact Assessments, Habitat Restoration: Work independently to inventory and monitor previously decommissioned, unsanctioned trails. Develop, organize and lead habitat restoration efforts on unsanctioned trails.
- 25% Trail Planning, Maintenance and Construction: Work with the Senior Natural Resources Planner and the Open Space District Trail Crew to provide as needed support on trail planning, construction, and maintenance projects.
- 25% Permit Compliance Monitoring and Reporting and Other: Monitor mitigation sites and prepare compliance monitoring reports for mitigation projects.
