LOCATION: Washington Conservation District (WCD) – Oakdale, MN
CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal Technician SALARY RANGE: $18-20/hr DOQ
BENEFITS: Performance based bonus available (up to $500), plus enhanced sick and safe leave
HOURS/DAYS: Normal business hours (up to 40 hours per week)
STATUS: Seasonal, non-exempt
TERM: Approx. March-December, dependent upon frozen conditions (Flexible start and end dates)
The Washington Conservation District seeks a self-motivated individual to assist with inspection of permitted construction sites with regard to erosion and sediment control (ESC) practices in beautiful Washington County, Minnesota. The goal of this program is to reduce erosion, improve water quality, and protect water resources.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Conducting construction site ESC inspections.
• Documenting site conditions, and preparing and distributing ESC inspection reports.
• Communicating and/or meeting with project and regulatory contacts to resolve ESC issues.
• Successful applicant will be provided on the job and professional training to perform duties, including certification by the University of Minnesota’s Erosion and Stormwater Management Certification Program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified applicants will possess, or be actively pursuing, an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Biology, Conservation, Hydrology, Limnology, Water Resources, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field. Must have the ability to walk long distances on uneven terrain associated with construction sites and be willing to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions. Must be detail oriented, be able to work independently, and have strong communication skills to resolve ESC issues. Must be proficient with various computer software, including spreadsheet and database programs. Must have a valid driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with Minnesota’s Construction Stormwater General Permit. Be certified by the University of Minnesota’s Erosion and Stormwater Management Certification Program (Construction Installer or more advanced). Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Online or other ESRI ArcGIS products. Experience reading construction plans.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves office (10-20%) and outside field work (80-90%). Frequent position changes; significant driving time; exposures not limited to heat, cold, dust, and wet conditions; use of the senses of sight and smell are necessary in this work. Equipment used includes, but not limited to, general office equipment including computers, printers, and telephone, and field equipment such as vehicles, cameras, and tablets. Applicants will be reimbursed for mileage when using personal vehicle.
