Seasonal Research Assistant positions are available with the CAES Soil Testing Laboratory and the Office of Aquatic Invasive Species (OAIS). Positions require performing soil fertility tests in a laboratory setting and documenting aquatic vegetation in Connecticut waterbodies. A background in the natural sciences (environmental science, natural resources, ecology and evolutionary biology, soil science etc.) is required. The successful candidate will assist the principal investigator in testing soil and water samples, aquatic plant surveys, preparing plants for our herbarium, and GIS mapping. Outstanding interpersonal skills are needed for interacting with the public and CAES OAIS team. Must be comfortable working full days in the laboratory or in the field and possess a valid driver's license. Boating experience is preferred, and the successful applicant will be required to obtain a CT Safe Boating Certificate. The ability to swim is necessary for safety on the water. Candidates must be organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and resourceful. Computer skills include MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software and webpage editing is a plus. The positions are available from May through October 2025 but can be shortened to accommodate school schedules. The salary is $17/hour for a 35-hour work week.
