The MNPhrag research team at the University of Minnesota Dept. of Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology is seeking two seasonal research technicians to assist with site monitoring and research related to invasive Phragmites. Work will involve regular travel to field sites throughout the state. Work will be primarily field-based with some campus-based indoor days for data entry, greenhouse work, and sample processing. 

The technicians will assist to varying degrees across a combination of three projects, including monitoring invasive Phragmites populations as part of a statewide research and control program (see MNPhrag.org), contributing to research on remote sensing of Phragmites, and research addressing the capacity of native vegetation to prevent reinvasion where invasive Phragmites has been controlled. Tasks could include collecting data on invasive Phragmites populations; communicating with private landowners; collecting, entering, and managing data; sampling vegetation; collecting soil cores, conducting herbicide treatments; seeding native wetland vegetation; and related research activities. These activities will require driving to field sites, performing outdoor work in both urban and rural settings, including wetland, lake, roadside, and agricultural habitats, and interacting with diverse stakeholders in a professional, collegial manner.
