As a Senior Biologist at Bargas Environmental Consulting LLC, you will have the opportunity to lead multiple projects and mentor staff while conducting surveys that apply your knowledge to deliver comprehensive and accurate reports for meeting regulatory standards. As a Senior Biologist you will also serve as a technical expert and play a key role in influencing departmental objectives and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

Within the first 30 days:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of 2+ project's overall scope from invoicing and budget Reaches out to build rapport with the leadership team and engages with Senior Scientists and staff Scientists to build strong working relationships.
  • Lead fieldwork, if needed, and provide guidance to junior staff.
  • Review Bargas’ best practices and processes for the RFQ process, invoicing, project management, quality control, internal systems, safety and budgeting.
  • Become familiar with the file management systems including SharePoint and Ajera. Gains proficiency in invoicing management across various project types, including monitoring outstanding invoices and identifying when to escalate issues.

3 months and ongoing:

  • Partners with the Director to evaluate project scoping, supervises the project team to provide direction, and manages the team workload to address gaps and prevent excessive workload.
  • Engages professionally with clients, staff, the public, and non-company personnel in various settings, including fieldwork and meetings.
  • Leads field projects independently while mentoring junior level staff.

6 months and ongoing:

  • Manages anywhere from 2-5 concurrent projects under the direct supervision of the Director in different stages of progress, depending on complexity and consistently established profitability on projects.
  • Serves as an author for department documentation and technical reports, while identifying potential risks and formulating strategies to mitigate their impact.

Within the next 12 months and ongoing:

  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of the project lifecycle from initiation to completion.
  • Brings ideas and solutions and demonstrates initiative and critical thinking in the approach to challenges.
  • Actively pursues professional development opportunities to enhance field and technical skills in environmental consulting and uses this to develop the team.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years of experience in fieldwork and reporting in Northern California, specifically in areas of vegetation mapping, jurisdictional aquatic resources, special-status species (flora and fauna) surveys, and reporting required
  • Proven track record in evaluating biological resources for meeting requirements for CEQA Appendix G required
  • Prior responsibility for managing or co-managing a minimum of 5 major projects to completion, demonstrating a strong track record of successful project execution and leadership required
  • Holding specialized permits [USFWS 10(a)(1)(A)], licenses, or certifications preferred
  • Demonstrated biological resources management skills and comprehensive knowledge of regulations involving biological resources required
  • Strong report-writing skills (including technical reports), with the ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts and findings to diverse audiences required
  • Proficiency in Excel, ArcGIS, and SharePoint, with experience using these tools for project management, human resources, and collaboration preferred

The compensation range is $85,000 - $125,000 annually commensurate with experience level and skillset
