The role: 

Join our team as a senior transportation analyst! In this role, you will serve as a critical, agency wide expert in climate related analysis specified in the Transportation Planning Rule (TPR), related statewide policies and plans. You will collaboratively develop, implement and apply climate related modeling and analytical methods, procedures and tools. This position is housed within the Transportation Planning Analysis Unit (TPAU). TPAU provides essential analysis and technical support to inform policy, planning, project development and system operation activities. TPAU has and continues to be at the forefront in this field, including developing several nationally recognized tools and models!

A day in the life:

  • Serve as a statewide technical expert in climate related transportation modeling and planning analysis (e.g., using travel demand models to calculate vehicle miles traveled).
  • Oversee and support the development of climate related transportation modeling and technical procedures.
  • Coordinate and provide technical expertise, guidance and review of transportation policy, plans and studies to ensure consistent climate related analysis is applied.
  • Review, research and guide new climate related methods, data sources, products and technical tools.
  • Implement and apply the VisionEval tool to support policy and plan development.
  • Perform climate related analysis to support development of policy, statewide plans, transportation system plans, performance measures and other planning efforts.
  • Use modeling and statistical software and other tools to support the implementation and application of travel demand models.
  • Provide training on climate related technical procedures and support related outreach, coordination and collaboration.
  • Work in an office environment with hybrid work options available - in-person meetings or office work anticipated at least six times a year with occasional limited out-of-state travel required.

Minimum qualifications:

Eight (8) years of planning experience related to the job;

OR

A bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning, public administration, social science, civil engineering, architecture, economics, geography or a related field AND four (4) years of planning experience related to the job;

OR

A master's degree in urban or regional planning, public administration, social science, civil engineering, architecture, economics, geography or a related field AND three (3) years of experience;

OR

An equivalent combination in relevant education, training, and experience.

  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in transportation planning analysis, including developing technical methods and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, using and maintaining travel demand models or other technical tools used in transportation planning.
  • Demonstrated experience using, manipulating and statistically analyzing transportation, land use or socioeconomic data.
  • Demonstrated ability to simultaneously work on multiple projects, while scoping, assigning, reviewing and coordinating work of others.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing, delivering and communicating technical products to a wide-range of customers.
