What We Can Achieve Together:

The Site Selection Specialist works within The Nature Conservancy’s Ohio Stream and Wetland In-Lieu Fee Mitigation Program (OMP), which utilizes mitigation funds to locate and develop restoration projects in the state of Ohio that maximize success and conservation outcomes for the State’s dynamic watersheds.  The Site Selection Specialist provides support to the OMP by working with conservation partners to identify, evaluate, negotiate, and obtain approval for potential restoration sites throughout Ohio to meet the mitigation goals of the OMP.  They will find a culture that supports and inspires conservation achievement and personal development, celebrates innovation, values collaborative approaches, and seeks lasting conservation results.

The position’s primary responsibilities are outreach to conservation partners and others regarding the OMP’s needs for restoration sites, research of potential sites, evaluation of properties for their feasibility and mitigation potential,  development of maps to illustrate the site’s resources and restoration approach, estimation of preliminary project budgets and mitigation credits, coordination of initial site assessments, writing of preliminary restoration concept plans for the sites, and maintenance of databases and other records. The Site Selection Specialist will provide periodic support for OMP land protection efforts, which may include engagement and communication with landowners and various contractors such as surveyors, appraisers, title companies and environmental consultants. This position is responsible for understanding and implementing OMP procedures and objectives, and collaborating with TNC staff in identifying and assessing potential wetland and stream restoration sites that are appropriate for OMP, or for other TNC programs as needed. The Site Selection Specialist works under the supervision of the Associate Mitigation Program Manager, and collaboratively with other OMP staff, TNC conservation staff, staff from the Corps, Ohio EPA and other organizations, and individuals as needed in carrying out duties. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

This is a remote position that can be located anywhere within Ohio. Columbus, Ohio area preferred.

What You’ll Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Relationship building experience working closely with a variety of partners, i.e., land trusts, park districts, private landowners.
• Experience, coursework, or other training in wetland and stream ecosystems in Ohio, and the key ecological processes that influence them.
• Experience, coursework, or other training in the principles of land acquisition or similar asset acquisition.
• Experience with using ArcGIS software for data analysis and map-making.
• Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timelines.
• Experience with communication via written, spoken, and graphical means in English.
• Experience using applications such as Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must have, or when appropriate be able to obtain, a valid Ohio driver's license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 3-5 years’ experience in natural resource management, or a similar field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resource preservation.
• Experience using ArcGIS Field Maps and GPS units.

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $50,560 - $59,755 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
