Are you an experienced professional in land use planning or environmental compliance ready to take on a leadership role in protecting our environment?

The Contra Costa County Public Works Department is seeking a Senior Watershed Management Planning Specialist to lead crucial stormwater pollution projects and collaborate with agencies to ensure regulatory compliance.

In this role, you will manage urban stormwater pollution projects, supervise a skilled team, and work with local, state, and federal agencies. Your expertise will directly contribute to the sustainability of our communities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • We are looking for candidates with at least (4) four years of full-time professional experience in land use planning, environmental compliance, or closely related work.
  • You must also hold a bachelors degree in urban/regional planning, environmental studies/science, business, geography, engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Along with a valid California Motor Vehicle Operators License (or out-of-state equivalent).
  • Other: A Masters degree in a relevant field can substitute for one year of the required experience.

Ideal Candidates:
You will stand out if you have a solid understanding of Bay Area stormwater regulations, experience managing grants, and proficiency with database or GIS systems.

1. Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application, applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process. 

2. Virtual Oral Interview: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited via email to complete a HireVue On Demand video interview. The assessment will measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the Senior Watershed Management Planning Specialist classification. These may include, but are not limited to: Leadership, Project Management, Decision Making, and Critical Thinking. (Weighted 100%)

  • The Senior Watershed Management Planning Specialist interview is tentatively scheduled to take place via computer (remotely): TBD
  • The virtual oral interview will be administered remotely using a computer or mobile device such as a tablet. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment, as well as computer or mobile device with a camera. 

3. Departmental Interviews: TBD

Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an invitation to participate in the selection process.

The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
