JOB SUMMARY:
The Stewardship Crew Members work with the Friends of Acadia (FOA) Stewardship Coordinator and the Acadia National Park (ANP) Volunteer Coordinator to facilitate a long-standing volunteer stewardship program on Acadia’s trails and carriage roads. The program works with weekly drop-in and service group volunteers (mostly youth groups), contributing greatly to the maintenance of Acadia’s natural and cultural resources.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Stewardship Drop-In Program (40%)
- The Drop-In in program takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8am – 12:30pm, is open to the public, and does not require preregistration.
- Discuss project details with Volunteer Crew Leaders (VCLs) and assist with gathering supplies/tools
- Greet volunteers as they arrive and facilitate volunteer sign-in sheets and waiver form completion.
- Give morning briefing on FOA/ANP partnership, upcoming happenings, the day’s projects as well as outdoor hazards and preparedness.
- Join volunteers out in the field and assist on project if schedule allows.
Service Groups (25%):
- Lead volunteer projects on the trails and carriage roads, including but not limited to: drainage clearing, weeding on carriage roads, cutting vegetation from trail corridors, clearing trailside drainage, maintaining historic trail surfaces (i.e. resurfacing, check step installation, grade dips, etc.), and constructing bogwalk.
- Prioritize safety of volunteers by leading safety trainings for service groups on outdoor hazards, demonstrating proper tool usage, and responding to any incidents.
- Facilitate volunteer sign-in sheets and waiver form completion.
- Incorporate service-learning curriculum and reflection activities throughout.
Scouting, Planning, and Prepping projects (20%):
- Scout and assist in planning work assignments for volunteer projects based on the annual maintenance schedule and park needs.
- Serve as roving ambassador for FOA while out in the field.
- Perform weekly systems:
- Tool distribution, collection, maintenance, inventory, and cleaning
- Van cleaning, fueling, and general maintenance.
- Reports any equipment issues to the Stewardship Coordinator
- Attend and participate in weekly stewardship crew meetings.
- Coordinate and deliver materials for projects.
Office/Admin Work (10%)
- Prepare paperwork for upcoming projects.
- Communicate with volunteers regarding project coordination, including but not limited to, sending a weekly email to all volunteers.
- Assist with data reporting for volunteer projects.
Large Events (5%):
- Work with FOA staff on large events such as the FOA annual meeting, benefit auction, volunteer appreciation events, local parades, and Take Pride in Acadia Day.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
