Summer Camp Assistant Counselor

The Assistant Camp Councilor reports to the Summer Program Coordinator and will primarily work with the summer day camp program. This includes teaching camp groups each week, assisting with the development of curriculum, and assisting with the supervision of volunteers. During non-camp weeks, the Councilor will assist with other educational programming, assist with general facility and grounds upkeep, and assist with ongoing projects.

Job Type: 2 Full-time Seasonal and 1 Part-time Seasonal Positions Available
Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead educator for a camp group each week, up to 15 children per group
- Assist in curriculum development
- Assist with general management of the camp program, including helping with check-in and check-out, supervising lunch and free-time, supervising volunteers.
- Participate in ongoing nature center projects on off camp weeks
- General upkeep of the facilities, including general cleaning and habitat maintenance as needed
- Other tasks as assigned and needed.
Candidate Requirements
- High school rising senior or older, preferably looking towards a career in education, environmental education, or related field
- Knowledge of natural history and environmental topics
- Knowledge of, desire to work with, and experience working with children, including preschool through middle school
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Current CPR & First Aid Certification
- Ability to pass a criminal background and sex offender check

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee will be required stand for extended periods of time while leading youth, and must be able to hike on uneven and hilly terrain continuously for up to five miles during the summer heat and humidity. The employee will also be expected to sit and perform extensive keyboard work for curriculum development and parent communication. The employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, run or climb as part of duties leading youth.
