Since 1926, 4-H Camp Timpoochee has hosted overnight and day summer camps for youth ages 8-17. We have kept this tradition alive today because of the positive impact of our summer Cabin Leaders. Our Cabin Leaders are the foundation of camp. We provide room and board during employment, but also opportunities for American Red Cross First Aid, Waterfront Lifeguard, and Shooting Sports certifications.
4- H Camp Timpoochee has nearly a 100 year history of providing summer camp experiences to you of all ages! We are thankful to be able to continue this today with amazing Camp Staff! This summer, Camp Timpoochee will be running approximately 9 weeks of summer camp! We have a mid-summer break over the 4th of July holiday which staff are welcome to travel or stay on camp and enjoy the amazing firework show in Destin, Florida.
We are located in Niceville, Florida, and have a third of a mile of waterfront right on the Choctwhatchee Bay. All our cabins and buildings are climate-controlled, which offers a nice respite from the summer heat.
Training begins on May 14th, 2025, and is paid training. All applicants must be age 18 by this date. No experience is required to be a Cabin Leader! Just a desire to make a difference and have a memorable time doing so. We will provide you will all the training and certifications you may need. These include American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard/First Aid and Shooting Sports! We provide room and board starting with training all the way to the end of summer. Lodging is also provided during the weekend time frame. Campers generally arrive on Monday and are off-site by Friday afternoon, leaving weekends open to rest and re-coup or to explore the beautiful Emerald Coast!
Our leadership team strives to provide a memorable summer of growth and leadership to all our camp staff. We have worked with various schools and universities to also ensure you receive internship credit for your summer work as well. We also have a recruitment incentive! If you are brought on as a Cabin Leader, anyone you recruit who is hired also qualifies you for an additional $100/person bonus at the end of summer.
General Summer Camp Staff Responsibilities:
- Be the primary caregiver to campers’ social, emotional, and physical needs
- Supervise youth aged 6-16 day and/or night and guide them around camp in accordance with their daily schedule
- Support instructors during hands-on activities and assist in behavior management throughout the day and night
- Oversee and manage cabin cleanliness, conduct a daily cabin inspection, and report any repairs that need to be made to the Assistant Camp Director
- Contribute to and work during evening programs
- Lead group recreational activities during cabin time and as needed
- Help with housekeeping responsibilities in preparation for upcoming camp weeks
- Attend and actively participate in all staff trainings and meetings
- Work cohesively with fellow team members
- Assist in other duties as assigned by the Camp Director and Assistant Director
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Desire and ability to work with youth and adults in a camp setting
- Ability to accept and adapt to guidance and supervision
- Must be willing to obtain American Red Cross certification in CPR/FA/AED (training provided at Camp)
- Background screenings are required
- At least 18 years of age by May 14, 2025
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Driver’s License
- American Red Cross certification in CPR/FA/AED
- Experience working with youth in a supervisory capacity
- Experience exhibiting responsibility and reliability
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS:
- Meals are provided during camp events
- Lodging provided from May 14, 2025, through August 2, 2025, on-site
- Staff are not required to work most weekends, unless the camp has booked a weekend rental group. If interested in working these groups, you will receive additional pay. For weekends with no groups, all staff will have at least 24-48 hours off between Friday and Sunday.
SALARY: $375/week, plus room and board and workers’ compensation coverage
