Summer Nature Camp Instructor

Gain experience working with a non-profit organization with a focus on public education (mainly youth) and visitor services. Responsibilities include leading groups of students during school programs, assisting with visitor services and events as needed, and other educational projects as assigned. These are nature camps taking place outdoors at the WVBG. All lessons, activities, and crafts, will revolve around nature-related themes including birds, wildflowers, trees, insects, water, and wildlife. Nature Explorers camps will run full day from 9:00-4:00pm and will be limited to 20 campers entering grades 2nd-5th. Curious Kids camps will run half days, 9:00-12:30pm and will be limited to 16 campers entering PreK-1st. Each day will include mini-lessons, activities, games, outdoor exploration, and crafts.

Time commitment:
5 weeks of Camp (June 9th- July 18th) plus planning (total of about 150 hours). Instructors must be available to work all camp weeks. Additional hours may be available if interested.
Compensation:
- Instructor compensation is $11.50/hr.
Responsibilities:
- Plan for Camps: meeting with camp leaders for training as well as helping to prepare lessons, activities, and crafts for camp.
- Camp set-up and clean-up: Helping the camp leader to set-up prior to camp and clean-up following camp each day.
- Teach lessons: Using activities, games, stories, crafts, and other engaging methods to teach campers about natural history.
- Supervise campers: Working as a team to manage risks and maintain safe environments during snack, free-play, nature exploration, and all other times throughout the day
- Create a welcoming environment: Getting to know campers and building a fun, inclusive community in each camp group.
Qualifications:
- Ideal candidates will possess general knowledge of WV Natural History and have experience with or interest in working with children. All interested candidates are encouraged to apply.
