The Summer Program Assistant plays an essential role in Teton Science Schools’ nature and play-based summer programs in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Our summer programs* foster curiosity, critical thinking, social-emotional learning, and science literacy in young learners through outdoor exploration and adventure. 

This position works closely with the Summer Program Coordinator and instructor team to ensure smooth program operations for over 100 campers each week. The Program Assistant keeps the gears turning– managing logistics, administrative systems, and camper family communications– while also supporting program facilitation. This role will spend time both indoors doing administrative work) and outdoors assisting programs in variable weather. 

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in both program administration and outdoor education at a dynamic and community-oriented field education organization. 

*Although TSS offers summer programs for various age groups, this position is specifically for 1st-7th grade summer day camp programs* 

Responsibilities:

Program Logistics & Administration

  • Manage weekly program data and materials, including group rosters, participant medical information, photo files, camping gear, teaching supplies, and more. 
  • Maintain attendance tracking, scheduling, and data organization to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Organize and distribute weekly camp materials and supplies to support instructors and activities. 

Camper & Family Support

  • Provide customer service and communication to camper families with professionalism, empathy, and clarity. 
  • Support instructors in problem-solving, lesson implementation, and behavior management as needed. 
  • Supervise and engage with 1st-7th grade participants, fostering a fun, safe, and meaningful learning experience.
  • Manage Extended daycare for up to 10 students daily (3:30 - 5:00 PM).

Team & Staff Support

  • Facilitate staff meetings with educators and help instructors stay informed and prepared. 
  • Contribute to team success by sharing ideas, challenges, and questions in daily and weekly meetings. 
  • Assist with program planning and occasional camp instruction as needed. 

Risk & Safety Management

  • Respond to emergencies according to TSS policies and support structures. 
  • Safely drive 15-passenger vans and mini buses with trailers for program transportation. 
  • Take care of yourself– maintaining energy and motivation through a long, challenging season. 

Qualifications:

  • Desire to work as a collaborative team member; ability to give and receive feedback.
  • Ability to work independently with attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills working with kids (1st-7th grade) and adults.
  • Desire to contribute to a safe, inclusive workplace and cultivate a sense of belonging for all.
  • Experience using Google Suite, spreadsheets, and database management systems.
  • Valid First Aid, Adult, Child, & Infant CPR & AED certification.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Successful applicants must pass a criminal history background check and driving record review prior to start date.
