Position Summary
The Boulder Ranger District of the Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forest is seeking a strong candidate to assist in the Timber program with a wide variety of timber management activities. The candidate will be trained by and work directly with our permanent Forest Service employees, gaining the opportunity to learn from their crew lead, foresters, and other vegetation management staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Main duties include:
- Using GPS equipment and mapping applications to navigate and map cutting unit boundaries (30%)
- Assisting with reconnaissance and layout of cutting units (30%)
- Marking cutting unit boundaries with tracer paint (5%)
- Conducting basic measurements of tree diameters and heights using measurement tools associated with timber cruising (25%)
- Surveying seedling regeneration in cutting units and post-fire landscapes (5%)
- Supporting reforestation efforts with contract inspection and post contract surveys (5%)

Valid Drivers License
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Living Accommodations
Housing is available at the Nederland Work Center in Nederland, approximately 30 minutes away from the District Office. Candidates will share either a small government house or a large bunkhouse with other candidates or government employees. Housing consists of 3 or 5 small bedrooms with shared bathrooms and kitchen facilities and is minimally furnished. Candidates will be assigned a room with one other candidate or government employee of the same gender. Laundry is available on site and public WIFI is available in Nederland. Most cellphone service carriers cover the area around the Work Center and the town of Nederland.
Compensation
- $460/week @ 16-20 weeks Government housing available or $400 monthly living allowance
- $1,100 round trip travel allowance
- AmeriCorps eligible ($1,956.35 education award) upon completion of 460 hrs
- Paid Federal Holidays
- Public Lands Corps PLC Eligible if under 30 and 35 for veterans
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
