The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Product Sales and Leasing Division as the agency-wide expert in timber sale and log marketing, this position ensures the program efficiently provides accurate information for appraising and marketing timber sales intended for public auction. This position provides the timber sale appraisal values for establishing minimum bid amounts for timber sales while maintaining direct communication with the purchasing community. This position is responsible for developing timber sale program marketing goals and objectives, timelines, and tools for accomplishing those goals and objectives and evaluating the marketing program's effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze market trends and explore ways to enhance revenue through new marketing initiatives. Responsible for the creation of annual marketing tools to identify optimal sale auction timing.
  • Appraisal lead, oversee timber sale appraisal for all Board and Region timber sales.
  • Oversee the DNR’s cruising program.
  • Supervision

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a closely related field;
    OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • 4 years’ experience in cruising, log manufacturing, and merchandising.
  • Advanced level proficiency experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe applications.
  • Experienced with all aspects of timber cruising and mensuration including different sampling systems for timber cruising, analyzing and explaining sampling statistics and sample design, and interpreting and reporting cruise information and product descriptions.
  • Knowledgeable with log scaling methods and applications.
  • Understanding of local and regional timber markets and producer needs as well as factors affecting the market value of timber sales such as costs.
