As a Trail Crew Member you will work along the iconic Appalachian Trail and develop trail building skills. You will build stone steps, waterbars, retaining walls, and other erosion control structures. Advanced training with stone cutting, stonework, rigging systems, and other trail work will be provided. The Crew Members will be a key part of the team comprised of approximately five staff and volunteers, working in beautiful, remote and rugged settings. Your work on the Appalachian Trail will be enjoyed by thousands of hikers for decades or centuries.
Days off housing will be provided at our new Maine Trail Center, in Skowhegan. Having a personal vehicle for days off is essential as Maine is a rural state with limited public transportation. Sorry, no pets.
Qualifications:
- At least one season of trail work experience preferred.
- Backcountry backpacking, camping, and cooking experience.
- Good health and physical fitness and the ability to hike long distances in mountain terrain.
- Ability to maintain a safe and enjoyable work environment under challenging conditions, and to take direction from leadership.
- Ability to solve problems with flexibility and resourcefulness.
- Ability to work well with others from a variety of backgrounds.
