The American YouthWorks – Conservation Corps (AYW CC) participants engage in hands-on conservation projects on public lands, coastal regions, National Parks and recreational areas across the Central Southern United States. The AYW Conservation Corps experience builds leadership skills, connection with community, and prepares young people with skills needed to enter the workforce with a strong work ethic and sense of service!
This is a short-term Summer Conservation Krewe Baton Rouge summer program with the AYW – Louisiana Conservation Corps (LaCC) where the crew will focus on habitat restoration, invasive species management, trail maintenance, and other conservation based activities. This team will be camping and hitching in 10 day increments (10 days on, 4 days off) and will be traveling extensively in multiple states.
This is a full-time seasonal term-based AmeriCorps position working outdoors that specifically focuses on gaining entry-level conservation experience in habitat restoration, trail projects, and more. The Louisiana Conservation Corps is a Program of American YouthWorks.

COMPENSATION (Monthly Living Allowance):
- Crew Leader $2,720 per month ($1,360 biweekly)
- Crew Member $2,400 per month ($1,200 biweekly)

Baton Rouge, LA Operating Site – Multiple States (300 hour)
- June 2, 2025 – July 18, 2025
Educational Requirement:
- Crew Members: No high school diploma or GED required
- Crew Leaders: High school diploma or GED required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Frequently required to walk and hike over long distances while carrying tools
- Ability to operate tools
- Heavy lifting, bending, and carrying up to 35-50* pounds (*depending on crew type)
- Walking and working on steep or uneven terrain
- Ability to work long days in adverse weather conditions
- Depending on crew type, ability to hitch, camp, and travel throughout the duration of an entire AmeriCorps term
REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Ages 17+ for Crew Members and 21+ for Crew Leaders
- US Citizenship or lawful permanent US Resident
- Ability to pass a National Service Criminal History Check
- Crew Leaders Only:
- High school diploma or GED
- Clear 3-year Driving Record
- Prior experience in conservation, camping, backcountry travel, or related fieldwork
Preferred
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather types while doing demanding labor with hand and power tools
- Function as part of a team with the ability to get along with members of all backgrounds and experience levels
- Strong service ethic and commitment to completing an entire term of service with a desire to serve the community and the environment
- Crew Leaders Only:
- Ability to hike 3-12 miles per day in rugged terrain, often wearing a 45lb backpack and carrying tools
