Position Summary 

The US Field Senior Manager will lead our US branch, the largest of Climate Reality’s 11 international branches, with 100 chapters and more than 35,000 volunteers. They will work closely with the Global Field Director, in consultation with the Campaigns and Field SVP, to build the strategic direction and drive operational success of The Climate Reality Project’s work in the US. The Senior Manager leads and mentors a team of regional organizers to support our volunteer-led chapters of Climate Reality Leaders through organizing, branch programs, and partnerships. The Senior Manager serves as a thought partner and collaborates across teams to implement US programs and activities that support Climate Reality’s 2030 goals and global campaigns (Reducing Emissions, Financing a Just Transition, and Promoting International Cooperation).

The Senior Manager will provide support for US-based Climate Reality Leadership Corps Trainings and develop and implement a post-training engagement strategy. They will manage the implementation of online webinars for Climate Reality Leaders that are hosted by headquarters.

Reporting to the Global Field Director, the Senior Manager currently supervises 3 to 4 regional organizers.

This is a full time, exempt, benefits-eligible, hybrid position. The Climate Reality Project offers a flexible hybrid schedule, with staff working from our office in downtown Washington, DC at least two days per week to enable and encourage collaboration within and among teams. The salary range for the role is $94,566 – $96,458 USD.

Duties and Responsibilities 

Supervisory

  • Create an environment where supervisees feel comfortable sharing ideas and suggestions
  • Assign work that is both manageable and appropriate to supervisees' level of experience, clearly conveying objectives, deadlines, and expectations
  • Provide guidance and support when needed
  • Support supervisees’ professional development by providing opportunities to put skills into practice and connecting supervisees to other advocates, experts, mentors, and resources
  • Educate staff on and, as necessary, enforce organization policies and processes

General

  • Foster growth and capacity building in US chapters, identify new state and local engagement opportunities for chapters and leaders, write plans and proposals, as well as manage US branch budget
  • Convene and collaborate across the organization to formulate and implement branch strategy, and serve as thought partner to translate global/national campaigns into local US chapter context
  • Collaborate closely with Diversity and Justice as well as Climate and Environmental Justice teams to weave a climate justice framework throughout our programming
  • Coordinate with Director and other team leads to implement plans, oversee the collection of metrics, as well as support reporting and analysis of data related to the Climate Reality Leadership Corps programs to ensure measurable impact toward climate solutions in the US
  • Design, implement, and manage chapter engagement and curriculum, such as monthly webinar series, action toolkits, and post training engagement activities
  • Plan and implement action components of Climate Reality Leadership Corps US trainings, including identifying engagement opportunities and partners, outreach, creating action materials, facilitating sessions, and managing follow-up
  • Represent the organization in national coalition spaces, including on national leadership calls, ensuring the organization’s campaign priorities are in line with our key partners and the larger environmental movement
  • Support the growth of US chapters by creating meaningful processes that promote their sustainability, including managing chapter fundraising processes, distribution, and reimbursements
  • Identify and support the creation and implementation of new programmatic elements and organizing structures for US Climate Reality Leaders outside of the chapters program
  • Support and foster close collaboration among US and international regional organizers to encourage sharing of best practices, lessons learned, uniform support levels, and create collaborative programming between international branches
  • Provide direct support to the regional organizers for US chapters in greatest need of assistance, and serve as a backup to regional organizers on all other US chapter engagement
  • Support program management and organizational administrative work for the US Field, and ensure adherence to organization processes and policies
  • Support and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our operations and enrichment of our culture, for example by serving on ad hoc or ongoing work groups, assisting with the onboarding and training of colleagues, and participating in efforts to assess, refine, and strengthen our culture and practices
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned 

Required Skills and Abilities  

  • Detailed knowledge of a broad range of engagement strategies and tactics

  • A self-starter who is able to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience and awareness of cultural diversity, ability to work effectively with a diverse group of organizations and volunteers in the US and internationally
  • Proficiency with project management, CRM platform, and/or online reporting systems
  • A dedication to solving the climate crisis with climate or environmental expertise preferred.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer required
  • Willingness to travel within the US a few times per year with occasional international travel possible

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree—or equivalent experience
  • Has 5 to 7 years of relevant experience
  • Significant experience leading and mentoring in-person and remote staff, ideally in a field or regional organizing role
  • Proven experience managing, motivating, and leading volunteers toward programmatic impact with results
