DIPAC is a private non-profit corporation dedicated to enhancing salmon stocks in Northern Southeast Alaska and educating locals and visitors alike on the salmon life cycle and importance of hatcheries in the state through the Ladd Macaulay Visitor Center. The Visitor Center Educator is a guest service oriented role that acts as the face of the Macaulay Salmon Hatchery during the summer months. The position requires speaking in front of large groups, prolonged periods on your feet, as well as strong people skills. Visitor Center Educators will work in a fast-paced environment, & will need to be able to multi-task and move from one job to another as needed. Interest and knowledge of marine life and fisheries are a plus. Below is a detailed description of duties associated with the job.

  • Providing educational commentaries to varying sized groups of visitors
  • Retail sales, cash register operations, money handling
  • Maintaining organization of the gift shop with a working knowledge of products
  • Conversing with guests from around the world, answering questions, and providing facts 
  • Maintaining cleanliness of visitor center and guest-used spaces, including outside grounds 

Requirements: 

Public speaking experience from previous jobs or classes. Money handling skills and customer service experience are a plus but not required. Must be willing to have a flexible schedule, work on weekends, and stand up to 6 hours on your feet. Knowledge of fisheries and marine life can be learned on the job but previous experience will be a great foundation.

Must be eligible to work over time.

Housing is NOT provided.
