Trinity County Resource Conservation District is accepting applications for the position of Watershed Conservation Technician II. The Watershed Conservation Technician II works closely under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and the Program Manager and may perform a variety of natural resources related tasks. This position requires a person who can work effectively in a collaborative environment, is self-directed, and who is comfortable working independently. The Watershed Conservation Technician II is a full-time temporary seasonal position and will conduct field work approximately early May through August of 2025. There is the potential for additional weeks of work following the field season. A majority of field work will be conducted in day trips, but 2 - 4 days of overnight camping will be required for select surveys. Per diem for meals will be provided when camping. Survey equipment and gear (waders, wading boots, wetsuits etc) will be provided, but technicians are required to obtain their own camping gear and hiking boots. This is not a benefited position, but employee will accrue Paid Time Off and Holiday Pay. Housing is not provided, and it is recommended that those seeking housing search in close proximately to Weaverville, CA.
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to hike upwards of 6 miles through rugged terrain and in inclement weather
- Ability to work independently or as a team to complete tasks, sometimes with minimal direct supervision
- Ability to work safely
- Ability to communicate effectively and independently solve problems
- Flexibility to assist with a variety of tasks to support program needs
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Possession of a valid California Drivers license
- Ability to pass a drug test/screening
Desired Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experience:
- Ability to work long days out in the field while maintaining a positive attitude
- Experience living or working in remote areas without cell service and the use of a Garmin InReach or other satellite devices for communication
- Experience with leave no trace practices
- Experience driving 4x4 vehicles off road
- Experience collecting data with a GPS unit
- Experience reading scientific instruments and recording measurements
- Experience recording and transcribing data in Microsoft Excel
- Experience following standardized protocols
- Interest in watershed science, hydrology, and/or salmon surveying
- Skills in identifying local plants and animals
- Experience and training in chainsaw operation
- Experience conducting snorkel surveys and/or swimming and hiking long distances with a wetsuit and gear
- Current CPR First Aid Certification
Duties:
The Watershed Conservation Technician II will perform a wide variety of natural resources related work, including but not limited to:
- Deployment of monitoring equipment in streams and tributaries along the Trinity River
- Water flow monitoring
- Stream Condition Inventories
- Data entry and QA/QC
- Salmon snorkel surveys, contingent on performance and ability
- Other natural resources related tasks as directed.

$21.00/hour

TIMELINE:
