The Watershed Conservation Resource Center (WCRC), a nonprofit organization located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, is seeking qualified applicants to fill a full-time, Watershed Engineer/Scientist position. The Watershed Engineer/Scientist will work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer to assist the WCRC to achieve its mission of protecting, conserving and restoring natural resources using a watershed approach.
Job Duties
The Watershed Engineer/Scientist will assist with ongoing watershed and stream restoration projects at the WCRC. Primary responsibilities of this position will be
- Assist with the collection and analysis of a variety of data types related to stream, riparian, and watershed assessment and restoration projects.
- Assist with: surveying and other hydrologic and geomorphologic data collection; hydrologic, hydraulic, geomorphologic, and geospatial analyses
- Preparation of stream and watershed maps
- Development of construction plans, permit applications, and floodplain modeling
- Report writing and outreach activities.
This position will require the employee to participate in outdoor field activities and occasional out-of-town travel.
Qualifications
- Candidates for this position must have a minimum of 4 years of experience and education equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in: environmental, agricultural, biological, chemical, or civil engineering with an emphasis on the environment; soil environmental, or watershed science; geology, hydrology, geography or other physical science with an emphasis on the environment; ecological restoration; wildlife or fisheries biology.
- Training in applied river morphology and river restoration design equivalent to the Level IV course offered by Wildland Hydrology is preferred.
- Experience relating to stream restoration, watershed assessment and watershed planning is required.
- Experience using software products including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Autodesk AutoCAD/Civil3D, ESRI ArcGIS/ArcMap, and Rivermorph is preferred.
- Candidates with a background and knowledge in one or more of the following areas will be given preference: stream restoration practices utilizing natural channel design approach and Rosgen stream classification system; fluvial geomorphology; GIS analysis of natural resources data and map production.
