About the Watershed Engineer/Scientist (Mid-Level) Position
The Watershed Engineer/Scientist (Mid-Level) will work under supervision of the Senior Design Engineer to assist the Watershed Conservation Resource Center (WCRC) to achieve its mission of protecting, conserving and restoring natural resources using a watershed approach. The Watershed Engineer/Scientist (Mid-Level) is a full-time, salaried, exempt, position.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Watershed Engineer/Scientist will assist with ongoing watershed and stream restoration projects at the WCRC. Primary responsibilities of this position will be
- Assist with the collection and analysis of a variety of data types related to stream, riparian, and watershed assessment and restoration projects.
- Assist with: surveying and other hydrologic and geomorphologic data collection; hydrologic, hydraulic, geomorphologic, and geospatial analyses
- Preparation of stream and watershed maps
- Development of construction plans, permit applications, and floodplain modeling
- Report writing and outreach activities.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in environmental, agricultural, biological, chemical, or civil engineering with an emphasis on environmental, soil, or watershed science OR geology, hydrology, geography, or other physical science with an emphasis on environmental science or ecological restoration
- Minimum of four (4) years experience in environmental, agricultural, biological, chemical, or civil engineering with an emphasis on environmental, soil, or watershed science OR geology, hydrology, geography, or other physical science with an emphasis on environmental science or ecological restoration
- Experience relating to stream restoration, watershed assessment, and watershed planning
Preferred Qualification, Knowledge, and Skills
- Training in applied river morphology and river restoration design equivalent to Level IV course offered by Wildland Hydrology
- Experience using software products including Microsoft Office products, Autodesk AutoCAD/Civil3D, ESRI ArcGIS/ArcMap and Rivermorph
- Background in stream restoration practices utilizing Natural Channel Design approach and Rosgen stream classification system
- Background in fluvial geomorphology
- Experience in GIS analysis of natural resources data and map production
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position requires working full days sitting or standing. Occasional field work outdoors with frequent exposure to hot and humid conditions, rugged terrain, swift moving water, loud heavy machinery, ticks and other biting insects, and wildlife will be required. Occasional evening and weekend work hours may be required, as well as out-of-town travel.
