Salary: $3,811.00 - $5,117.00 Monthly

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Northwest Region. The Wildland Fire and Forest Health Specialist position is responsible for providing critical wildland fire support during the wildfire season at the regional level. When not engaged in fire suppression activities, the Specialist is responsible for delivering on key forest health treatment activities including, but not limited to prescribed fire preparation, fuels mitigation, and management including piling and burning, thinning, and treatment area flagging, and related activities.

Required Qualifications: 

• Associate degree or higher from an accredited institution in a Fire Science, Natural Resources, Forestry, or related field;
  OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Fully qualified in one or more of the following NWCG qualifications listed below or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire date:
  • Engine Boss (ENGB)
  • Fire Effects Monitoring (FEMO)
  • Firing Boss (FIRB)
• Experience supervising or leading wildland firefighting personnel.
• Experience in:
  • GIS
  • Fire Effects and Fuel Load Monitoring
  • Prescribed Fire Operations
  • Fire Prevention Programs
  • Fire Suppression
  • Fuels mitigation and silvicultural practices
  • Forest measurements
• Experience in computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Global Positioning Systems.

• Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
• Ability to work with the public, sometimes under stressful conditions.
