Salary: $3,811.00 - $5,117.00 Monthly

Responsibilities:
The Regulation and Preventions Technician has a great influence on the quality, image, and message delivered to the general public of Washington State. This position works closely with community partners and other agencies and plays a leadership role in fire suppression activities.  

The majority of the duties will include administering and approving burn permits, interpreting/applying fire regulations and IFPL restrictions, conducting wildland fire investigations, and fire suppression. This position will act as a Wildland Fire Investigator regularly. The Regulation and Prevention Technician will work closely with fire suppression resources to suppress and prevent the spread of wildland fire.  

Other duties will include but are not limited to being a lead and/or unit instructor for NWCG fire courses for wildland fire training, leading, and participating in wildland fire prevention activities. The Northeast Region is a fast-paced and complex work environment that requires an individual who will work within the team's goals and dynamics to be successful.

Required Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience with:
    • Firefighting techniques, practices, terminology, equipment, and other resources for wildland fire management including support needs, communications, and safety precautions.
    • Wildland Fire regulatory practices and burn permit processes.
    • Fire weather technology, weather’s effect on various fuel types, and knowledge of weather as it influences fire behavior.
    • Professionally communicating with a variety of groups including subordinates, superiors, the public, and other partner organizations both written and verbal, especially in stressful situations.
    • Developing and maintaining cooperative, effective working relationships both internally and externally.
  • NWCG Qualified as:
    • Single Resource Boss
    • Incident Commander Type 5
  • Experience in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and GPS technology.
  • Must annually pass arduous level work capacity test.
  • General knowledge of conducting Wildland Fire Origin and Cause Determination investigations.
