Maine Woodland Owners is a membership-based statewide organization established in 1975
dedicated to advancing the interests and serving the needs of Maine’s family woodland owners --
those owning from a few to a few thousand acres. As a non-profit educational organization,
Maine Woodland Owners is committed to fostering sustainable forest management practices and
empowering landowners to steward their forests effectively.
We are now seeking a dedicated individual, with a background in wildlife biology to assist
woodland owners with the implementation of practices to enhance wildlife habitat on their
forestland. The wildlife biologist will serve as a liaison between landowners and various
conservation programs, ensuring that landowners understand what financial programs and
technical assistance is available to assist them with enhancing wildlife habitat on their properties.
This new position is a three-year shared position with the Natural Resources Conservation
Service (“NRCS”) and the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. There is a
possibility of a two-year extension. Supervision, daily direction, training, and support will be
provided by Maine Woodland Owners and NRCS Staff. The position will be located at Maine
Woodland Owners’ office in Augusta, Maine with occasional time spent at NRCS offices.

Responsibilities:
- Be familiar with all cost share programs available to woodland owners.
- Provide private landowners with information regarding financial incentives for the conservation
and management of wildlife habitat.
- Coordinate with the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to educate landowners on the
Species of Greatest Conservation Need as defined in the State Wildlife Action Plan.
- Promote best practices for habitat enhancement, restoration, and conservation through one-on
one interactions with woodland owners, as well as through in-person and online group
interactions.
- Provide feedback to NRCS on ways to improve delivery of their technical assistance programs.
- Support and assist existing NRCS approved Technical Service Providers (“TSPs”) with
problem solving and qualifying their clients for cost share programs.
- Actively encourage more foresters to become TSPs, and assist with their training.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a
related field.
- Strong knowledge of wildlife species, habitat requirements, and conservation practices.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal) to effectively engage
with diverse landowners and stakeholders.
- Hold a valid Driver’s License.
- Willingness to travel to various sites and work outdoors in varying
conditions.

- Strong understanding of effective social media communications.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as an Associate Wildlife Biologist or Certified Wildlife Biologist through The
Wildlife Society.
- Knowledge of financial assistance programs and incentives related to wildlife enhancement for
landowners.
- Familiarity with Geographic Information systems, including ESRI products.
