Wildlife Habitat Biologist I: First level in a professional career path for management of wildlife habitats. Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree and a WSDA Public Operator Pesticide License with three endorsements. Wildlife Habitat Biologist II: Second level in a professional career path for management of wildlife habitats. Requires 36 months at the Biologist I level (or a Master's Degree and 12 months at the Biologist I level or equivalent), expanded knowledge of and demonstrated experience implementing field and laboratory methods, report results, research literature prepared by others to organize reports, and the ability to independently work with other agencies and private landowners. The Wildlife Habitat Biologist I/II supervises and leads three (3) Wildlife Technician I/II/Senior staff members on vegetation management activities that adhere to and follow the required safety precautions. The Wildlife Habitat Biologist I/II requires extensive field work in all weather and terrain conditions and is under supervision of the Wildlife Mitigation II/Senior Biologist. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: 

Wildlife Habitat Biologist I:

• Requires a  Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in wildlife, range, natural resources science, or environmental science.

Wildlife Habitat Biologist II:

• Requires Wildlife Biologist I requirements and 36 months' experience at the Biologist I or equivalent level related to habitat management for wildlife range, restoration, conservation, and/or research; OR A Master's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the applicable science AND 12 months experience at the Biologist I or equivalent level related to habitat management for wildlife, range, restoration, conservation, and/or research. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Requires knowledge in application of wildlife habitat management policies and procedures.
• Requires knowledge in native plant and animal identification and associated habitat.
• Requires knowledge in key noxious weed species identification and ecology.
• Requires knowledge in how to design and implement general habitat and/or plant community surveys.
• Requires knowledge in GPS receivers and GIS software for the management of natural resources.
• Requires effective maintenance of accurate records of all data to prepare reports.
• Requires knowledge and experience in fence construction, repair, and removal.

• Requires knowledge in how to develop and read maps, GPS instruments, aerial photos, and conduct self-orientation in the field utilizing various instruments and reference resources.
• Requires use computer software and systems to store, develop, maintain, and monitor invasive species control efforts for use in reports, presentations and information dissemination. 
• Requires the ability to aid in the designing and conduct field surveys and inventories of wildlife habitats.
• Requires the ability to collect scientific data and keep accurate records.
• Require the ability to identify invasive species within the region and utilize effective control measures to contain, prevent the spread, or eradicate invasive species; plan and implement daily, weekly, and/or monthly work schedules.
• Requires the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and maintain clear and concise records of all chemical applications and equipment/supplies used to perform job functions.
• Requires the ability to safely handle, mix and apply pesticide chemicals as needed per application.
• Requires the ability to maintain equipment required to apply management treatments.
• Requires the ability to identify environmental conditions that may create problems during implementation of invasive species control measures.
• Requires the ability to work safely under various weather and terrain conditions. Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, clients, outside agencies, other Tribes, and the general public.
• .Requires the ability to provide educational and technical expertise to land managers, Tribal members, landowners, and others on invasive species matters. Must work effectively in a multi-cultural environment as a team member in a pleasant and efficient manner.
• Requires the ability to function indoors in an office environment and outdoors.

• Requires the ability to pass a first aid course and maintain qualification; Must be able to work effectively in all weather conditions and in rough terrain.
• Requires the ability to effectively work with and/or supervise other employees, must be in good physical condition with the ability to pack heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) over rough terrain and possibly in inclement weather conditions.
• Requires the ability to safely operate a variety of mechanical equipment to spray, mow, till, or harrow selected areas for invasive species control and supervise the safe operation of equipment by subordinates. Must be well experienced in the use, maintenance, and minor repair of farming implements, large tractors, herbicide spray equipment, small engines, and ATV's.
• Requires the ability to drive light to heavy duty trucks, tow and disconnect trailers.
• Requires the ability to complete repetitive tasks, such as spraying invasive species.
• Requires the ability to sit or stand for considerable periods of time (hours).
• Requires ability and willingness to work in varying, sometimes remote, locations day or night in all kinds of weather and in rough terrain.
• Requires the ability to work often through the night and occasionally on weekends.
• Requires the ability to travel overnight of up to 5 days as work dictates.
• Requires the ability to work a variable schedule, including: evenings, early mornings, and holidays as the work dictates. Requires the ability to travel for work projects, meetings, training and conference participation as necessary.
