General Description

The Alaska Raptor Center seeks Wildlife Interpreters for Alaska’s premier raptor treatment center and educational facility, which is also one of the state’s foremost visitor attractions. The Alaska Raptor Center is located on 17 lush acres in the temperate rainforest of Southeast Alaska, nestled between mountains and the sea. We educate over 100,000 visitors each summer.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that our visitors have a positive and meaningful experience.
  • Present educational programs and conduct guided tours of the facility.
  • Coordinate ad hoc bird presentations.
  • Check in guests and process a variety of transactions at our front desk and in the gift shop.
  • Provide customer service and restock the gift shop.
  • Keep public areas of the Center visitor-ready at opening, closing, and throughout the day. This includes cleaning the restrooms, sanitizing surfaces, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning all display cases and counter areas, taking out trash, sweeping the deck and sidewalk, and stocking educational materials.
  • Assist the Lead Wildlife Interpreter and Development Specialist in other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be enthusiastic, outgoing, and hard working.
  • Must be willing to perform public speaking.
  • Must be willing to learn. This position is a great educational opportunity: You’ll learn about eagles, owls, hawks, falcons, and Alaska’s rainforest, and share that knowledge with others.

Position Type and Duration

  • Seasonal full-time (40 hours per week).
  • Flexible start date in late April / early May.
  • Position ends September 30th.

Supervision

The Wildlife Interpreter reports to the Development Specialist or the Lead Wildlife Interpreter when the Development Specialist is not present.

Compensation

$17.00/hr. · Shared, furnished, offsite housing will be secured for our seasonal staff.

Rent is $300 bi-weekly inclusive of utilities and Wi-Fi.
