HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Wildlife Nutrition Coordinator performs duties associated with organizing, processing, maintaining, and communicating essential wildlife nutrition information and data sets, necessary for diet management and formulation, feed procurement and inventory. This position supports multiple job roles within the Wildlife Nutrition Department, and reports to the Clinical Wildlife Nutrition Manager.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Support multiple job roles within Wildlife Nutrition, most frequently wildlife nutrition management at each campus, and coordinates the distribution of information in response to inquiries, requests, and wildlife move notices. Record, maintain, and update feed data in appropriate software applications.
- Collect and/or record data and information on nutritionist’s clinical cases, prepares diet assessments and reviews using appropriate information sources; effectively partners with warehouse operations and other teams to maintain feed data integrity including inventory, research and supply across diet management applications.
- Work closely with wildlife health, wildlife care and other departments as necessary, including in the development and coordination of training in wildlife nutrition practices (e.g. body condition scoring) and document control (i.e. SOP's, Nutrition Toolkit and other reference materials; seek opportunities and make recommendations to develop, update, implement and improve procedures, processes and documentation related to wildlife nutrition management.
- Review result, adjust protocol, or refer questionable findings for review as needed. Research animal consumables and supplement-related items; presents findings and data to wildlife nutrition management.
- Collect, process, and send out non-biological samples for analysis as part of the department's quality control process; assures accuracy of equipment, collaborating with appropriate departments, and troubleshooting equipment problems.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- JOB EXPERIENCE
- Two years of experience working in some capacity associated with feeding and nutrition of animals is preferred.
- EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, Nutrition, Biological Science, or related field required.
- Current valid California Driver’s License in good standing.
- SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Practical understanding of basic comparative animal nutrition and how it applies to animal health and welfare, and general knowledge of USDA guidelines and HCCAP guidelines is required.
- Knowledge of animal nutrition, zoo animal management applications (e.g. ZIMS) and diet record keeping is required.
- Experience using software applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database programs) for data management and report generation is required.
- Ability to organize, process and maintain multiple essential data sets with speed and accuracy required.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a diverse work environment required.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively, plan, and remain organized required.
- Ability to apply critical thinking in problem solving and decision making required.
