Key Responsibilities include wildlife care, facility maintenance, public engagement, wildlife restoration, volunteer management, rescue and transport support, documentation and reporting, and team collaboration. Responsibilities may include but not be limited to:
- Assist with medical assessments, diagnostic procedures, and treatments for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife.
- Provide comprehensive care, including feeding, administering treatments, and monitoring animal health and behavior.
- Prepare specialized diets and habitats based on species’ natural history, growth stages, and individual needs.
- Maintain a high standard of hygiene and organization in rehabilitation enclosures, medical areas, and other facilities, ensuring safe and appropriate environments for wildlife.
- Communicate with the public regarding wildlife emergencies and patient care. Represent SBWF in a professional and educational manner.
- Educate the community on human-wildlife interactions and best practices for coexistence.
- Run educational outreach booths to engage with the public about the mission of SBWF.
- Hike to trail camera locations to swap batteries and SD cards, ensuring continuous data collection for monitoring wildlife abundance.
- Provide guidance to volunteers and interns, ensuring they adhere to proper animal care protocols and safety procedures.
- Assist in wildlife rescue operations, assuring safe capture, handling, and transport of animals, including coordinating pickup and delivery of patients.
- Maintain accurate records for wildlife patients, documenting progress, medical treatments, and rehabilitation outcomes.
- Assist with the management of the SBWF phone line to response to inquiries and provide guidance on appropriate actions.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss ongoing cases, resolve issues, and improve the quality of care.
- Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive team atmosphere.
