A Limited Term Employment (LTE) position will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees. Work schedules are dependent on business needs. 4) Allow individuals to hold multiple LTE appointments concurrently. There are two 20-hour per week LTE positions posted for Spooner, WI. If an applicant applies for both positions and is the best qualified for both positions, it is possible that one person could work both jobs. This position is responsible for a broad range of entry level technical support for the wildlife management program under the guidance of a Wildlife Biologist or Wildlife Technician - Advanced. Work duties include assisting with priority habitat management activities, maintenance of DNR equipment and facilities, and Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) management and surveillance. Work occurs throughout northwestern Wisconsin in the St Croix Area, with a focus in Washburn and Burnett counties. This position will work with a wide range of wildlife species and on many wildlife habitats doing a wide-range job duties, but most notably with pine-oak barrens habitat and sharp-tailed grouse.
- 40% Assist with implementation of priority habitat management activities. Includes, but is not limited to: operation of equipment, managing water control structures and supporting infrastructure, application of herbicide, and participation in prescribed fire operations.
- 30% Maintain DNR equipment and facilities. Perform routine maintenance of equipment, signage, and structures.
- 20% Assist with the implementation of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) management and surveillance. Collect and process biological samples according to established protocols.
- 10% General program support as needed, including completion of monthly reports and maintaining accurate records.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to work irregular shifts including early mornings, evenings, and weekends
- Knowledge or experience in wildlife management or a related field
- Experience with equipment and facility maintenance
- Knowledge and/or experience operating and maintaining chainsaws, small engines, and tractors or other heavy equipment
Special Requirements:
1) Residency: To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.
A Wisconsin resident is a person who:
a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier;
b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years;
c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or
d. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c).” s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.
